Show Evelyn Guerrero Gets Air Pilot License Miss Evelyn Guerrero won her pilot's license July 20, in California. Califor-nia. She is the first St. George girl to officially take to the air as far as can be learned. Born in St. George November 2, 1913, she is the daughter of James and Wanda Sturzenegger Guerrero. She completed her district dis-trict school work at the Woodward Wood-ward and after graduating from the Dixie junior college in 1934, accepted employment as local telephone operator to earn money 'with which to continue her education. edu-cation. Resigning this position in September, 1935, she entered the McKay business college in Los Angeles from which she graduated in July, 1936, finding employment with the Los Angeles Times in their general offices as comptometer compto-meter operator. For the past two years she has been employed in the auditing division of Bullocks' department store and has been taking night school on the side. She enrolled in the Frank Wiggins Wig-gins trade school, taking three nights each week on a preliminary course in meterology, air-dynamics and navigation. After completing these courses, she entered the Diesel flying school, receiving her student license January 30 of this year, and on July 20 received her solo pilot license. This examination exami-nation was given her by W. L. Carroll, bureau of air commerce inspector of the government and the license entitles her to drive and fly a ship anywhere in the United States. |
