Snow, Karl J. l:leak and Ilex Nelson. Burial was in the St. George city cemetery. William A. Nelson was born In SI. George, January 15, 1H75, the oldest son of William and Mary Alice Thompson Nelson, Utah and Dixie pioneers. He had his education in the early schools of SI. George and showed early an aptitude for business and a capacity for ornniinK and working work-ing with his I'ellowmen. Marries In I HI)!) February '25. 1890, he married Jane Godson Bleak, daughter of James G. and Jane Thompson Bleak and for a short period they made their home in Aroma, Nev. Kelurnine; to St. George be joined with his brother Ernest Nelson find Mrs. Addie E. Price Bracken in establishing the Nelson Mercantile Mer-cantile Co., now owned and operated by W. B. Mathis and family. In 1010 he was associated with Charles Whipple and Leo A. Pickett in establishing the first moving picture show in St. George, operating first in the Opera House, now the beet seed plant; and later when Mr. Pickett sold out to John IT. Pymm and S. C. 1 lardy, the company built J the present Gaiety Theatre and gave St. George the best there was in the form of entertainment. Tn 192-1 William Nelson opened the first gasoline service station in this city. He was also a self-educated self-educated market gardner and has given much help to the community com-munity in this line. Pile to the total blindness of four of their children, Mr. and ' Mrs. Nelson have carried a heavy1 burden in educating these four: and have been able to provide ' them with the best training avail-'able, avail-'able, living in Los Angeles over one period that their two daughters, daugh-ters, Blanche and Ruby might continue with their music and vocational vo-cational studies. All four have been well trained and are capable and self-sustaining citizens, having given freely of their talents, especially in music to the community. com-munity. The courage, business honesty and fine courtesy of the parents are reflected in the lives of the entire family. Mr. Nelson has been ailing for several months and was spending the summer with his sister to be out of the heat. His death came suddenly. Surviving besides Mrs. Nelson are the following children; Dr. Frank B. and Roy B. Nelson, of St. George; James B. Nelson, of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Dorothy Nelson of Quincey, Calif.; Mrs. J. P. McCormick, Mrs. Lloyd Hansen and Mrs. Roy J. Fruth. all of Los Angeles; two granddaughters, grand-daughters, Mabel Olive Nelson of Salt Lake City and Ruby Marie McCormick, of Los Angeles and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. John H. Riding, Mrs. Chester A. Kemp, St. George; Mrs. Martin Larson and Marion Nelson of Motoqua: George Nelson of Springvillo. and Mrs. Joseph Maloney of Virgin. |
