Show SCS Reports On Surveys Of Short Creek Irrigation Project The surveys for the Short Creek Irrigation project have been completed, com-pleted, reports Louis Lyster, water facilities engineer of the St. George Soil Conservation service office. The area surveyed included approximately ap-proximately 141 acres owned by J. N. Lauritzen, Dean J. Laurit-zen. Laurit-zen. LaVerne R. Lauritzen, Dawn Lauritzen and Melvin Johnson. This area is irrigated from Short Creek and Maxwell Creek, but the old. worn out wood stave pipe line and wooden flumes are leaking so badly that over half of the water is lost enroute to the fields. The area is one of shifting (Continued on page four) Short Creek Water (Continued from first page) sands which makes a leak proof, closed pipe line a necessity. This leakage can be corrected by the installation of approximately approxi-mately 5100 feet of concrete pipe line and 300 feet of steel pipe for use in crossing small waterways. water-ways. Under the plans developed, the cooperators will do all the labor, precast the concrete pipe and install in-stall the necessary flumes and diversions. The water will be brought to a reservoir, from which the irrigation water will be drawn. The cost of cement, lumber, steel pipe and other miscellaneous miscellane-ous costs will be covered by a water facilities loan. This loan will be arranged through the cooperation co-operation of the Farm Security administration. This work will more than double the supply of irrigation water for the orchards, alfalfa, small grains and domestic gardens gar-dens on the area, and will prevent pre-vent the necessity of coninuous repair of the existing system. |
