Show Crowd Jams Penney Store For Opening Day Sale On Vednesday The local J. C. Penney store, under the management of Hyrum Thomas, opened its doors Wednesday Wednes-day in their new location in the newly constructed Pace building on the corner of First North and Main streets. For the first time in the history of the company com-pany in this city, a crowd was waiting in front of the building for the doors to open. This crowd portend the number of people that were to come to the store throughout the day to give it a bigger day than was anticipated. Those who attented the opening open-ing found that the Penney company com-pany had nearly doubled their floor space with the result that they were able to present their merchandise in a much more pleasing manner. Modern lettering over the various departments enables en-ables the shopper to determine the minute he steps in the door just where he wants to go for the merchandise he desires to purchase. The building is air-( air-( Continued on page four) Penney's Opens (Continued from first page) conditioned, modern in design and the stock is well displayed to give a very pleasing appearance. Perhaps Per-haps the biggest improvement in the store is the shopping ease with which both customer and clerk may satisfy the needs of the buyer. Bigger stocks will ge carried in every department, states Mr. Thomas, coupled with the facilities facili-ties of the store, to make this the finest general merchandise store south of Provo. "We never had an idea that this town would support a store of this kind when we came here nine years ago", declared Mr. Thomas. It is only because of the loyal support of this section that such a store has been made possible". pos-sible". In this regard, local people feel that the Penney company, with its great fact-finding resources and experience, must feel that St. George has a fine future ahead or the company would not have gone out ahead of the community com-munity with this modern store. |
