Show South Ward Day Goes Over Big As Large Crowd Attends The Bishopric of the St. George south ward extend appreciation to the entire community and others whose cooperation and support made their "Tabernacle Fund Drive" such a thoroughgoing thorough-going success last Saturday evening. even-ing. More than 600 cafeteria style lunches were served and every concession sold out completely before be-fore the evening was over, netting the major portion of the ward's $500 allotment. Former Bishop Harold S. Snow and organist Seth Harper created much merriment as auctioneers and clerks of the country store and were assisted by genial Mrs. Milton E. Moody. Their wares, all contributed by ward members, went "like hotcakes", and fine chickens and turkeys went through second and third sellings, original buyers returning their purchases to give the auctioneers more practice and the store more returns. A general spirit of carnival carni-val merriment prevaded the evening; even-ing; Scoutmaster Leo Smith and his troop taking care of the target shooting, pop selling and other features. The M.I.A. under presidents presi-dents Byron Taylor and Mrs. Claud Thompson brought in good returns with their little shoe, coin collectors, at one cent per inch of foot measurement; the human ducks at the ball-throwing alley brought good returns; the primary pri-mary organization with their apron and quilt top bazaar sold every item, and the relief society women did themselves proud as usual with their preparation and management of the cafeteria. Celebrating the successful day, , regular class work was abandoned Sunday morning and the time spent in a general session of thanksgiving and testimony. Special speakers for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Dan Heaton and their son, Garn, who recently returned from the British mission; mis-sion; past missionaries A. F. Miles, D. Wilson Woodard, Harry Gentry and Wm. A. Whitehead, along with congregational singing, brief remarks by Bp. Andrew McArthur, and Miss Emily Brooks and organ music by Seth Harper. |
