Show Family reunion fun for Nickells The descendents of James Chilton Nickell and Ida May Williams Nickell celebrated three days of family reunion June 18, 19 and 20 on the mountain near Flaming Gorge where "Jim Nick" herded so many years of his life. Lorna Holmes, Colleen Nickell, Lynette Ray, Erma Merrell, Marquita Hammond Lynn Eve Wilkins and Karen Merrell hosted the event. Among the heaps of foods served to the guests, were family heritage recipes. In memory of "Jim Nick" everyone enjoyed good old mutton and sour dough biscuits. There was "Grandma "Grand-ma Nickell's" raw carrot salad, honey cookies grandma used to make for the Maeser School cafeteria in 1935, raisin filled cookies and the family's favorite, boiled raisin cake. Each Nickell child was presented a book of remembrance filled with family stories, lots of family pictures, a host of heritage recipes and up-to-date family genealogy. A granddaughter, Beverly Tschanz Slaughter, Bakersfield, Calif., was responsible for compiling this information. in-formation. Karen Merrell, Jackson Hole, Wyo., was assigned the arts and crafts for grandchildren. The children made magnets decorated with pictures of "Jim Nick" and "Grandma Nickell" and little wool lambs mounted on black paper with the inscription, "My Greatgrandfather Great-grandfather was a sheepherder." The Nickell's first reunion was held at Lela's in Alamo, Nev. a year ago. The family was visited by Jose and Lute Stewart from Jensen and Jim Nick's first cousin Coleman Nickell and his wife Bertha from Kentucky. The next reunion will be held in 1984 at Lela's in Alamo.
