Show Brown water in city system baffles officials Ashley Valley residents have been getting brown water from their taps since Thursday of last week. Officials are baffled by the dye-like colorant that is coming from Ashley Springs. Kay Overson, waterworks supervisor for Vernal City said the brown water was coming directly from the spring. The water above the spring is clear and the run-off is over. This makes us believe something has gone wrong inside in-side the spring, probably a cave-in or something, Overson conjectured. Usually the spring clears up faster than it has this past week, and the coloring is not so pronounced. As far as we can tell the water is still safe, Overson said. We get a good chlorine reading in town and instead of the regular 40 pounds per day of chlorine we are going to the limit of the plant to 100 pounds per day. It takes about two weeks to get water test samples back from the state lab, but we are sending samples to the Ute Lab for testing and this will take only 48 hours. We expect a report back Wednesday or Thursday. In a non-related project, water users were asked to use city water sparingly Tuesday and Wednesay because one of the main lines from Dry Fork Canyon was being shut off to make a connection into the Chocolate Rock storage tank by Ashley Valley Water and Sewer Improvement Im-provement District. Hopefully water from Ashley Spring will soon clear up, but until that happens hap-pens there is not much we can do, Over-son Over-son concluded. |
