Show Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo to stage 3 performances Once again it's Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo time in Vernal and three performances perfor-mances of the 32nd annual rodeo are set for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. A parade will be held each day at 6 p.m. The Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo is Professional Pro-fessional Rodeo Cowboy Association approved and is the only professional rodeo in Vernal. Some of the top ranked cowboys who have competed in the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo are: Tom Ferguson, world all-around champion; Jimmie Cooper, all around champ and number one calf roper; Don Gay, bull riding champion; Leo Camarillo, world all-around champ; Joe Marvel, saddle bronc champion; Dave Brock, calf roping; rop-ing; Joe Alexander, bareback riding champ; Bruce Ford, bareback champ; Brad Smith, George Richards, team roping champs; Doyle Gellerman-Walt Woodard, team roping champions; Bobby Berger, saddle bronc champion; Monty Henson, saddle bronc champ; Bud Monroe, saddle bronc leader going into the National Finals; J. C. Trujillo, Steamboat Springs, bareback champ; Mickey Young, Wellington, Utah, number two bareback contestant in 1980; Dennis Reiners, saddle bronc champ; Tee Woolman, team roping : champion; Allen Bach, team roping champ; Roy Duvall, steer wrestling champ; David Motes, team roping and Lewis Feild, a top saddle bronc and bareback contestant from Peoa, Utah. July 4 through July 10 has been declared as Western Week. A trophy will be awarded to the best participating par-ticipating business. First and second place prizes will be presented to the best entries in the parade which will start at Vernal Junior High and travel down 1st South. Saddle bronc, bareback bronc, bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping and barrel racing are the scheduled events for the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo. Family night will be Thursday and advance tickets can be purchased at the trailer in the center of town in Vernal or at Gardner's Bull Ring in Vernal or at Eldredge's in Roosevelt. Gardner's Bull Ring is rodeo headquarters. The family tickets must be purchased before rodeo time. A team roping jackpot will be July 10 at 10 a.m. and the stock contractor for the rodeo is D. A. Swanny Kirby. The queen for the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo is Suzann Wilkins. Miss Vernal is Denise Murray and Miss Uintah is Kathy Chivers. (Continued on page 2) Rodeo... J. Terry, Salt Lake City. Capturing top honors in the PRCA last year were: Jimmie Cooper, all around, $105,862; Brad Gjermundson, saddle bronc, $64,409; J. C. Trujillo, bareback, $76,140; Don Gay, bull riding, $63,908; Roy Cooper, calf roping, rop-ing, $94,476; Byron Walker, steer wrestling, $65,245; Walt Woodard, Doyle Gellerman, team roping, $48,818 and Arnold Felts, steer roping, $36,121. Cooper's brother Roy Cooper placed second se-cond in the all-around at $105,814. Tom Ferguson netted third place at $98,324. |
