West jumped out to a 6-4 lead on four free throws and a field goal by Chet Ridley. Roosevelt's Tracy Hall put in a field goal to tie up the game at 6-6, but Barry Reyos fired in a field goal to give West an 8 to 6 advantage. A field goal by Scott Wilson knotted up the game at 8-8, but Balwin Duncan connected on a two-point try to give West an 10-8 advantage. Chad Richard popped in a field goal to tie up the game at 10-10, but missed a free throw, which would have given a one point lead to Roosevelt. Reyos hit one out of two free throws to deliver a one point lead of 11 to 10 to West, but Wilson fired in a field goal to give Roosevelt a 12-11 lead. Ken Asay put in a field goal to return a one point lead of 13 to 12 to Vernal, but Wilson fired in a two-pointer to make the score at the end of the first quarter, Roosevelt, 14 and West, 13. Duncan, Asay and Robin Reed swished the net to give the Vikings a 19 to 14 lead early in the second quarter. Mike Ross and Russ Nielson put the ball through the hoop to cut West's lead to 19 to 18. Duncan fired in a field goal for West and Nielson tossed in one free throw to make the score at the end of - the second quarter, West, 21 and Roosevelt, 19.
