Four Uintah Utes put the ball through e hoop for points, but twelve Cyprus h rates struck for point pay dirt as the ew from Magna defeated the Utes, 80 37, at Vernal Junior High, Friday. Cyprus jumped out to a 19 to 6 lead in e first quarter in the Region 7 opener r both clubs. The Pirates outscored e Utes, 24 to 8, to take a lead of 43 to 14 . ter two quarters of action. Both L Jms scored ten points in the third arter. The Pirates returned to their scoring ways in the fourth quarter as they outscored Uintah, 27 to 13. Jeff Drollinger put in two field goals for the Utes in the first quarter and Mike Johnson added one two-pointer. Johnson was the top scorer for the Utes in the second quarter with two field goals and Dale Crowell and Drollinger scored two points. I Watkins. blazed the net in the fourth quarter with nine points on three field goals and three free throws. Drollinger and Devin Wright scored two points in the final quarter. The top scorer in the game for Uintah was Johnson with 19 points. He fired in eight field goals and hit 3 out of 6 free throws. Drollinger tossed in 12 points on five field goals and two free throws. Crowell scored four points and Wright fired in two counters. Uintah fired in 16 field goals and hit 5 out of 10 free throws. 6'7" Ron Bryce and Jeff Sorensen were the top scorers for Cyprus with 12 points. Bryce put in three field goals and was 6 for 6 from the foul line. Sorensen tossed in five field goals and was 2 for 2 from the foul line. Gil Romero put in ten points. He fired in three field goals and was 4 for 4 from the foul line. Also scoring points for Cyprus were: 6'5" Dee Huber, 8; Troy Spackman,8; Sterling Cloward, 7; Pete Sefakis, 6; Ted Snow, 6; Dennis Rupp, 4; Doug Dilley, 4; Wes Sayer, 2 and Rydalch, 1. The Pirates fired in 30 field goals and hit 20 out of 26 free throws. The Uintah Utes will battle the Judge Memorial Bulldogs in Salt Lake City, Friday at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and will take on the Spartans in Murray, Jan. 23. The Utes will host Tooele, Jan. 30 and Jordan, Feb. 13. Cyprus, Judge Memorial and Murray are in first place in Region 7 at 1-0. Uintah, Tooele and Jordan are tied for fourth place at 0-1. The Utes have a 1-10 record. Judge Memorial toppled Jordan, 70 to 50 and Murray edged Tooele, 79 to 75. Vierra was the top scorer for Judge Memorial with 24 points. He fired in six field goals and hit 12 out of 14 free throws. |
