Show Manila Clara Robinson Phone 784-5333 Manila fire dept. pot luck fund raiser The Fire Department's pot luck dinner will be held at 6:30 Saturday, April 18 at the Senior Citizen Center. People are asked to bring a pot luck dish. A charge of $1.50 per plate will be made in addition to the pot luck dish. Those not having a pot luck dish may attend and pay an added amount. The funds received are to help buy needed items for the Fire Department. Mrs. Jim Olson is in Roosevelt to receive medical attention this week. She was quite ill Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jensen and daughter JaNita left Saturday, April 11 for Tonapah, Nev., where he has employment. em-ployment. A family dinner was held Sunday, April 12 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Briggs, Jr. Attending the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Keith Anderson An-derson and four children of Seal Beach, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Doug Jarvie of Vernal and their daughter Tammy of Roosevelt; Mrs. Gilbert Jarvie and three children of Sandy, Utah; Mr. and Mrs. Gaylen Jarvie and two children; Mr. and Mrs. James Briggs and three children; and Mr. and Mrs. William Briggs, Sr. Also attending were two friends of Marshall Briggs. Marshall Briggs, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Briggs, Jr., was home from BYU this weekend. He was accompanied ac-companied by his roommate Pete Bodine and another friend, Morris Anderson, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Olson. Mr. and Mrs. Huston Kobinson and daughter, Amber of Las Vegas, Nev. visited with Huston's parents, friends and other relatives last week from Monday noon until Wednesday morning. mor-ning. Sue Tinker has returned from the University Hospital in Salt Lake City. Mrs. J.R. Steinaker returned Sunday night of last week from Houston, Texas after accompanying Mrs. Elbert Steinaker, Sr. there. Mrs. Elbert Steinaker will visit with her daughter, Mrs. Alfred Reich and receive medical attention while in Houston. Leeanne Redden presented a mono-act mono-act at the drama festival for which she received two excellents and a superior; Kristee Briggs gave a dramatic reading for which she received 3 superiors, 2 second and 1 third. Three of the groups presenting scenes from plays will attend the State Drama Festival at Weber State College on April 24 and 25 as well as Leeanne Redden and Miss Briggs. The Manila Chorus and drama groups will present a program at the Manila High School on April 21. The Chorus Festival will be at Park City on April 23. The M4L Homemaker's Club met at the Manila High School at 7 p.m. on Thursday. A demonstration on "Nutritious Snacks for the Overweight" Over-weight" was given. The demonstration was presented by Karen Harrington from the University of Wyoming. She was accompanied to the meeting by Denis Ham Johnson, Sweetwater County Home Economist. Besides Mrs. Johnson, there were six other guests-some guests-some from the homemaker's club in Dutch John and some from the Homemaker's club in McKinnon, Wyo. "It" packages were won by Marilyn Maloy, Carol Slaugh and Peggy Briggs. Hostesses were Margery Hullinger, Marilyn Maloy and Gloria Neff . Special business for the evening was the decision to enter a project for the drawing for the county drawing In Rock Springs. Also, Mary Steinaker was chosen as "Outstanding Homemoker of the Year." Mary Jean SteinaKer was chosen "Outstanding Homcmaker of the Year" at the April M4L Homemaker's Club meeting. Mary Steinaker is the wife of Randy Steinaker and does the bookeeping for his Chevron station nnd garage mainly In her home. The Stcinakcrs have three children, two girls, Michelle and Melissa who are both active In 4-H and a son David, who is an active Cub Scout and is Just starting 4-H this year. She is a member of the Manila LDS church. She was re- elected secretary and treasurer for the M&L Club this year. During the past year some new activities have been added to the club such as the bazaar which has not been held before. Mrs. Steinaker was very efficient in handling han-dling the various monies from this and helped organize it. If the president is busy, Mrs. Steinaker will go ahead and conduct the meeting, record the minutes and take care of the funds. She is always ready to go the extra mile. Mrs. Steinaker is an excellent cook and is able to arrange foods so they look appetizing as well as taste good. She loves tocook and try new recipes. She is also a good seamstress. Club president Ferl Briggs says "Anything Mary does she does it well and she is dependable. That's what I like." The town of Manila held the regular meeting at the Senior Citizen Center on April 9. The town has a new clerk Kathy Meinrod, wife of Robert Meinrod who is employed by the Forest Service. It was decided at this meeting that after May 1 the sanitary landfill would be open from 9 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturdays. The Monday garbage pickup pick-up will continue with the landfill being open from 9 to 12 on Mondays. The Manila Barrel Racing Club officers of-ficers were very pleased with the Easter Egg Hunt held at the Manila Elementary School grounds on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Fourteen children received prizes of various kinds besides finding lots of Easter eggs. The honor Toll of Manila High School was announced last week for the third term of the 1980-81 school year as follows: Judy Reed, Natalie Radosevich, Christy Jo Triplett, Alan Friedman, Matthew Briggs, Paul Lam, Michelle Charette, Starla Despain, Tammy Raveling, Kristee Briggs, Carma Sadlier, Leeanne Redden, Blake Ford, Robin Sadlier, Debbie Sikich, Becky Barber, Michelle Steinaker, Rhonda Sandquist, Randall Dcspain, Melanie Wilde. On April 1, the Manila Pack 26 Cub Scouts held the Pinewood Derby at the Manila LDS recreational hall. Winners were David Steinaker, first place, fastest car; Lance Hamblin, second place and Wesley Slaugh, third place; Bcvin Briggs and David Briggs tied for fourth place. Each contestant received a blue ribbon for participation. Each car was given recognition in 15 categories such as best design, most original, most colorful, etc. The Cubs have expressed gratitude to Cloyd Reed, who directed the Pinewood Derby, and to the judges, John Ylin-chcta, Ylin-chcta, Vance Grubb and Bryan Tinker, also, to Barbara Briggs who was scorekeepcr. These boys will go to Rock Springs for the Scout-a-Rama to compete in the Pinewood Derby on April 18. The Manila High School Drama students participated in the Drama Festival held at Tark City on Friday, April 10. Each group received three different ratings. Scenes from plays, participants and ratings were as follows: Kevin Slaugh and Mitch Ford 3 superiors, 2 first nnd 1 second; Blnine Thompson and Kevin Mitchcll-2 superiors and 1 excellent, 2 first and 1 second; Clint Schofleld and Dnrla Ucck-1 superior, 2 excellents, 2 seconds nnd 1 third; Chrsity Jo Triplett nnd Alnn Friedmnn-1 superior nnd 2 goods (these will be alternate. for State in cn scone group already listed Is unable to attend.)
