Uintfeih iKssefoeilSers drop doubSeheoder ffo Jordan The Uintah Ute baseball crew had a 2-0 lead after one inning of action in the first game and the baseballers were tied at 6-6 after three innings in the second game, but the Utes couldn't drive in the runs when they needed them and they were toppled by the Jordan Beetdiggers in Salt Lake City, Thursday, 4-2 and 9-7. Uintah has a record of 1-4 in Region 7 and has an overall mark of 2-4. Uintah grabbed a lead of 2-0 in the first inning in the first game. Mark Robb smashed a double and stole third base. He crossed home plate on a passed ball by the Jordan catcher. Mike Reynolds was walked and scored Uintah's second run on a passed ball by the catcher. Jordan tied up the game at 2-2 with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Washburn was hit by the pitcher, pit-cher, but he was picked off at first base. Browning singled and Thackeray was walked. Both runners scored on errors. The Beetdiggers scored two more runs in the fourth and sixth innings to win the game by the score of 4 to 2. Nelson singled, stole second base and was driven in on a single by Minnick. Browning was walked, stole second base and was knocked in on a double by Thackeray in the bottom of the sixth inning. Uintah had two doubleplays in the game. Uintah had chances to score more runs, but they could't drive in the base runners. Robb was walked and moved to third base on an error in the third inning and Morton was walked and errors placed him on third base in the fifth inning. Robb was stranded on third base and Morton was tagged out at home plate. Jordan grabbed a lead of 5-0 in the first inning of the second game as Nelson was walked and Hatch belted a homer. The Beetdiggers scored three more rUns in the inning. Jeff Good belted a triple and was driven in on a triple by Morton. Morton scored on an error and the two runs cut Jordan's lead to 5 to 2 after one inning. Nelson scored from third base in the top of the second inning when a balk was called on Morton. Uintah scored one run in the second inning and three runs in the third inning to tie up the contest at 6-6. Pat Jenkins singled, stole second, advanced to third base on an error and scored on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the second inning. Good, Morton and Robb slugged singles and a walk by Reynolds sent Good home. Morton and Robb scored on an error. Jordan broke the 6-6 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Hatch was walked, stole second base and scored on an error. Wittenburg got on base on an error and Wickel singled. Thompson knocked in Wittenburg and Wickel with a double, which gave Jordan a 9 to 6 lead. Uintah added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the final score: Jordan, 9 and Uintah, 7. Morton was walked, stole second base, advanced ad-vanced to third base on an error and scored on a sacrifice hit by Reynolds. The Utes had three hits in the first game and seven hits in the second game. Good and Robb had triples in the first game and Robb had a double in the first game. Morton and Jenkins were 2 for 3 in the second game and Good was 2 for 4. Reynolds and Robb were 1-2 in the first game and Mike Johnson was 1 for 3. Uintah batting averages as of the games with Jordan are: Reynolds, .461; Robb, .375; Morton, .333; Kurt Case, .250; Johnson, .235; Jenkins, .231; Good, .225; Mike Leishman, .154; Chad Stringham, .083 and Randy Smuin, .083. Reynolds is the top RBI man with six and Stringham has five. The Uintah Utes will host Murray in a doubleheader, Friday, April 24 and will battle Tooele on the road, May 1. . ,. . . ,!
