Show Transient arrested on hospital theft The Vernal City Police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of $300 in equipment from the Uintah County Hospital emergency room last Saturday. James D. Jacobs, 32, of Mesa, Colorado Col-orado was arrested April 12 after he attempted at-tempted to purchase items at the Safeway Drug Store with an altered prescription. "The drugist notified us when he noticed the prescription was altered," said Darrell Lance, Vernal City Police. Police reported that Jacobs came to the county hospital April 11 complaining complain-ing of adominal pains. He was admitted to the emergency room where he was examined and given a prescription. Hospital staff reported that a otoscope, opthalonscope, and a charger unit (valued at $300) were missing after Jacobs left. According to Lance, a small amount of marijuana was found on Jacobs while he was being booked in the Uintah County Jail following his arrest. Jacobs is being charged with two felonies, theft and altering a prescription; prescrip-tion; a misdemeanor, possession of a controlled substance; and Is wanted for a felony in Montana. His bail was set at $10,300. |
