Show Cub Scout circus generates activity Preparations began early last Saturday morning as scout leaders met at the Vernal Junior High School to organize the Uintah District Cub Scout Circus. Displays from different packs in the district were assembled on the theme, "The World Around Us." The displays featured puppet making, toys and games, den ideas, and toy repair. The cub pack sponsored by the Vernal Elks Lodge had a peep show where the boys could view a hairless dog, a big foot, and the ruins of China. From 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tamara and Allen Justice and Tom Jenkins weighed in cars for the . Pinewood Derby. A pit stop area was available to those cars that were over five ounces and the cars that needed more weight. With the cars weighed in and the display set up, the circus began at 11 : 30 a.m. Following the opening ceremony, the cubs were able to visit the displays, play the games, run the obstacle course and eat lunch at the snack bar. The main event of the day, the Pinewood Derby, began at 1 p.m. Eighty-six cars were entered in the races. Darin and Karen Hadlock, Billie Tait, Verna Rasmussen, Tamara and Allen Justice and Craig Blunt were the starters, judges, announcers and runners. Each car raced until it had lost twice or won the trophy. In the stock class first place was captured by Andrew Drollinger, second place was won by Joseph Hunting. The cub of the year for 1981 was selected from the cubs in the district chosen by his pack to represent them. Dace Billings, last year's cub of the year from the Uintah District and the Western Region, presented the trophy for this year's cub of the year, Joel ' Childs. Joel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Childs. He is an "A" student, plays the piano, plays soccer and is active in school, church and cub activities. ac-tivities. The district staff responsible for this year's Cub Circus were Anita Nokes, obstacle course; Craig Blunt, pinewood derby; Nila Richards, snack bar; Verona Rasmussen, decorations; Don Richardson, trophies; and Phyllis Harward, general chairman. In other cub activities, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Maeser Stake Center will be Scout Roundtable.
