Show Citizens against selling hospital Dear Editor: Citizens of Uintah County, would you consider selling your home and personal per-sonal property for V4 of its appraised value? If not, don't sit idly by and let our hospital be sold for lk of its appraised ap-praised value. We concerned citizens are staging a campaign to prevent our County Commissioners from giving away 2 or 3 million dollars in assets to Hospital Corporation of America. We are circulating cir-culating petitions of Uintah County residents who are opposed to the present sale. We have to date collected a significant number of signatures against the proposed sale. These signatures are needed to stop the sale when placed before a state board of ' review. Unfortunately, our Utah State law will change as of May 14, 1981. After May, 14, 1981, it will no longer be necessary for the state board of review to approve or disapprove the sale of county owned hospitals. Due to the change in state law, commissioners, you leave us no alternative but to start immediate impeachment proceedings against you. , You have proven yourselves to be incompetent in-competent public officials as far as the financial affairs of Uintah County are concerned. Whenever the doctors have come to you and requested new x-ray equipment or anything else for the hospital, you have failed to meet their requests without delay. Why do you think every new piece of equipment purchased for the hospital is a liability instead of an asset is beyond my comprehension. Since you have proven yourselves to be completely incompetent as public officials, I should like to be the first to tell you, any equipment you have purchased to date for the hospital is an asset. It has increased the value of the hospital and increased the service the hospital is able to provide for the citizens of Uintah County. So what if the newly purchased x-ray machines are outdated and need to be replaced within the next five years. If we, the citizens of Uintah County have enjoyed better health care at a reasonable price because of these machines during the next five years, we have gotten our money's worth. Doctors, after listening to the County Commissioners reasoning for justifying the sale of the hospital for of its appraised value, I can understand your total frustration at trying to work with such poor public officials. Not only do we as citizens need to impeach all three of our elected County Commissioners, but, we also need to remove everyone who is presently serving on the hospital board with the exception of Dr. Stringham. I would like to see Dr. Stringham remain on the hospital board. I would like our hospital board to consist of one more doctor, the head nurse at the hospital, one competent businessman and one competent county commissioner, com-missioner, thus forming a board of five. These five intelligent professional people could make the necessary decisions concerning the management of our hospital. In regards to the old part of the hospital, as it now stands in its present condition, much of it is of no value to anyone. This need not remain a permanent per-manent condition. My husband is a building contractor. During the past 14 years while he has been involved in remodeling older homes and building new ones, I have drawn or revised nearly every house plan he has used. The old part of the hospital is structurally struc-turally sound. With my limited experience, ex-perience, I believe every part of the old hospital may be remodeled and used to good advantage. As long as the old part of the hospital is sitting vacant, it is of no value to anyone. It is past time it was remodeled arid utilized. There is no reason why our hospital can't be a paying business if it has a competent hospital board of two doctors, doc-tors, 1 nurse, 1 businessman and 1 county commissioner to make decisions concerning the management of our hospital. To Hospital Corporation of America, I would like to be the first to wish you a speedy departure from our hospital and from our valley. We're not all favorably impressed with the services or high prices we have received during the past two years since you have been managing our hospital. Citizens of Uintah County, I gay once again, if you don't wish to see our hospital sold to Hospital Corporation of America for , of Its appraised value, please Join with me and other concerned con-cerned citizens in the fight to impeach all three county commissioners Immediately. Im-mediately. .. SHEILA E. LIND |
