Called "Autumn Splendor," this float entry is the earliest approved and built in the 92-year history of the parade. Tens of thousands of roses, Birds of Paradise, red, gold and tangerine carnations, carna-tions, orange and gold glads, bronze, rust and butterscotch butter-scotch pom-poms, orange marigolds, brown magnolia foliage, and a myriad variety of other fall flora. That's the "Autumn Splendor" float of Avon Products' third consecutive entry into the famed Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Cal. It was the first registered regis-tered and approved by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Assn. for the parade, to be held New Year's Day. Designed by Raul Rodriguez Rodri-guez to complement the official theme of "The Great Outdoors," the entry features a spectacular explosion explo-sion of autumn colors framing fram-ing two giant ring-necked pheasants taking a proud stroll through a fantasy field of wheat and wild flower gardens. Only the final fresh flowers are needed on the float entry and these cannot be applied until 48 hours prior to parade time. The float's designer and its builder, Fiesta Floats, captured both the Sweepstakes Sweep-stakes and Grand Prize awards with their floats last year. Rodriguez,, along with former Rose Princess Sue Cary who is Avon's beauty consultant to the 1981 Rose Queen, and her Court, will ride the float. |
