Show Experience. Some fine folks sang "I Get the Blues When it Rains," at the Golden Age dinner Monday, but none of us have the blues. Isn't this moisture wonderful? The singers who performed Monday were Rhondal and Irene Shaw from Louisburg, Missouri. Mrs. Shaw is the sister of Ella Ainge. The couple also sang "The Bear Song" and a tune about Freckles. Everyone enjoyed their entertainment very much. The meat loaf dinner was especially delicious, as well. Edith Gale announced that the "Golden Trippers" will be leaving at 7 a.m. Monday Aug. 17 for the South Dakota tour. Thirty-eight people have signed up for the five-day trip. Some special highlights will be the Passion Play, Mt. Rushmore and the return trip through Denver. This Thursday the 14th, there will be another pot luck picnic lunch. The bus will leave at 10:30 for the Uintah Power Plant. Monday the 17th a yummy fried chicken dinner will be served at the center. Hope you all can make it. These meals are so good and it's great to visit with your friends. Last week bingo winners were Alice Mott and Phyllis Warby. This week Alice was the big winner with five games. Here's a reminder to all of you Uintahs Clubbers. Elections will be held at 2:00 Sept. 2. Dues must be paid by then. You may give them to Joan or Ralph anytime before that date. One visitor at the Friday night dance was Fay Caddell of Rexburg, Idaho. Mrs. Caddell was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Newell Behunin. She is Bonnie's school chum. A get well card was signed for Ora Curfew. Our Senior Citizen Spotlight turns this week to a good friend and member of the Uintah's Club since its organization, Mildia Jones. Mildia came to Vernal from Cedar City in October of 1926. She has been a widow for twenty-nine years. She says she has little patience with women who just seem to give up when they lose their mate. Her philosophy has always been, "you'll live until you die, so you ought to make each day count." She surely has lived that saying to the fullest with her many hobbies and activities. She loves to grow beautiful flowers. Her arrangements have graced many wedding tables and she has taken flowers to church each Sunday for twenty-six years. Mildia's chairs have gorgeous needlepoint seats that she's done herself. She also likes sewing, cooking and has done some upholstery work. Her family consists of a son in Colorado, a daughter in California, seven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. She has made lovely quilts for her grandchildren which they treasure. Mildia loves people. Her husband told her she'd always get along all right because of her interest in people, and he was right. She says she feels it's important to read to try and improve yourself. "Keep yourself busy. Don't complain or dwell on your troubles. Think of others. Stay as pleasant as you can," says Mildia Jones and you'll live a long and happy life. Good advice for all of us from a lady who practices what she preaches. This is your old Aunt Phoebe saying a sense of humor is what makes you laugh at something which would make you mad if it happened to you. See you next week. |
