Lehto struck out, but the third strike was dropped and the ball bounced beneath the umpire's feet. By the time the catcher regained the ball the runner was on first base. Beveridge was walked, which placed runners on first and second base, but Flynn was whiffed for the final out. The Seattle crew scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning and the Aurora manager, Mike Freeman, left the game early. Montgomery singled and Gonzales gained a double when the ball bounced over the fence. Montgomery moved to third base. The next batter, Cameron, struck out, but Kitiona connected for a single, which drove in Montgomery and Gonzales and gave the Seattle crew an 8 to 2 lead. Freeman figured that Gonzales had run out of the basepath and should have been called out, but umpire Ronnie Merkley said that he wasn't and thus he wasn't out. Freeman added some extra comments to his statement and Merkley decided to award an out as he kicked Freeman out of the ball game. Kitiona was tagged out at second base and John Lemm grounded out.
