Uintah County Red Cross enjoys awards banquet Awards were presented to three volunteer workers in the American Red Cross organization at a luncheon meeting at the 7-11 Cafe on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Francis Lenox, Uintah County Chapter Chairman presented a Certificate Cer-tificate of Appreciation to Merlin R. Walker, Uintah County Safety Service Chairman, for having served 500 hours volunteer work and a special service award for having contributed 500 hours of service in a five year period. Mr. Lenox stated that Merlin has, in fact, donated many, many more hours to this activity, and expressed appreciation for the fine work he has done in organizing first aid classes, distributing information and training instructors in life saving procedures. Russel Case, first aid instructor, who is an employee of Dinosaur National Monument, was presented with a Certificateof Appreciation for his 500 : hours of volunteer work. He also received a special service award for 500 hours in five years. Marilyn Thacker, Uintah County Public Health Nurse, was awarded for having 500 hours to her credit in Red Cross work. Merlin Walker conducted the luncheon lun-cheon meeting and reported that last year was the best for accomplishment in first aid instruction. He reported that 35 multi-media courses were given from February to November and 366 certificates were awarded. One advanced ad-vanced first aid and emergency care was held, 18 certificates awarded; five C.P.R. classes were held and 77 certificates cer-tificates awarded; one beginning swimming class was held and seven certificates awarded; one advanced beginning swimming class with two certificates awarded; two advanced life saving classes with 15 certificates awarded. Classes were held in every month of the year, however, records of classes before February 1980, were kept by the state organization and not included in the county count. Merlin read a letter from the state organization advising of changes coming up in the first aid and safety programs. Instructors and members persent at the meeting included: Merlin Walker, safety service chairman; Francis Lenox, Uintah County Chapter Chairman; La Von Wall, publicity; instructors, Alleen Barker, Max Burdick, Moon Lake Electric employee, em-ployee, Duchesne County; Dan Bryson, Moon Lake Electric employee, Duchesne; Gene Gurr, Moon Lake Electric employee; Russ Case, Dinosaur National Monument employee; em-ployee; Doug Germeraad, Dinosaur National Monument employee, Collette Sweatfield Hyman, water safety instructor; in-structor; Leona Hagman Davis, U.S. Forest Service, Duchesne; Daniel Gardner, Bureau of Land Management employee. Merlin reported that a Swim Across Program, a campaign for swimmers who want to stay physically fit, is presently being held at the Municipal Swimming Pool. Anyone interested may contact Dean Pope or Collette Hyman. A class in C.P.R. instructor's class, is scheduled for the second week , in January. For further information contact Merlin Walker. A reminder was given that the Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Vernal at the Vernal Armory on Dec. 15. Citizens are urged to make a contribution of a blood donation at this time. |
