The total units of blood used were 176. "Last year was the first in six or seven years that we have provided more blood than we used," Deets said. Deets said that 80 to 90 units of blood will be needed at Monday's drawing to keep up with last year. "I encourage everyone to donate blood who can, so that we will be up with last year," Deets said. In order to be eligible to donate blood a person must be at least 17 years old, weigh over 110 pounds and not have been taking any medications. Seventeen Seven-teen year olds must have a parental waiver, available at the drawing before they can donate blood. "When a patient or family goes to the hospital, they should request re-quest that the Red Cross take care of their blood needs if they have donated blood," Deets said. |
