Show Vernal legal secretaries meet The Vernal Legal Secretaries Association met Friday, Dec. 5, at the 7-11 Cafe at noon. Roena Licht, vice president, presided. In honor of the holiday season, Christmas cards with candy canes attached, were presented to each member and visitor by the vice president. The door prize was won by Judy Adams. Donna Haas, PLS, gave a short history of NALS and the local chapter and explained the tri-level association. Chief of Police, Robert T. Downard, presented a very informative program on the polygraph. Chief Downard traced the history of "lie detection" methods from the rice test in ancient China to the very sophisticated machines in use today, and related various experiences he has had with the polygraph. The only polygraph machine in Vernal is located at the Vernal City Police Department and Chief Downard is the only certified examiner at the department at this time. Discussion followed the program and Chief Downard answered many questions concerning the polygraph from the group. The Association's next meeting will be Jan. 9. |
