| Show two brothers of tooele thoele pioneer family As they were 60 years ago 4 1 14 41 el 1 t I 1 W AU V f 4 W willia willian i G shields seated and robert shields standing as they appeared sixty years ago when this picture was taken in tooele thoele at that time william G shields was IS 18 years old and robert was 23 years old and it was before either brother was married now they are the oldest members of their family living in tooele thoele and their sister mrs isabelle shields who was 80 years old on july 15 living at lincoln their parents archibald cun ning rung shields and elle ellen n gillespie shields were parents of seven teen children a family of nine sons and eight daughters two daughters and one son died at a young age and the others all raised large families the eldest of the family now is james a G shields 85 at delta utah rob ert william G and arthur shields still make their homes in tooele thoele mrs isabelle shields at lincoln and marvin shields at uintah A sketch of the life of their grandfather john shields is div en here prepared by william G shields A family reunion has not been held in the past five years it is estimated there are 1000 descendants now of john and primrose cunningham shields and the members of the family are represented all over the country my grandfather john shields was born at Renfrew shire scot land april 3 1805 his wife prim rose cunningham shields was born there on september 17 1805 and died at tooele thoele july 4 1878 john shields and his wife prim rose cunningham shields and their family left scotland february 17 1849 as converts to the church of jesus christ of latter day saints they crossed the sea in the ship hartley they went up the mis sis sippi river on the boat light foot and lived at council bluffs iowa for two years and arrived in salt lake valley october 12 and three days later at tooele thoele on october 15 1852 their children were as follows mary shields born october 29 18 27 in scotland and died at tooele thoele august 7 1874 annie shields born in scotland on july 11 1829 and died there on june IS 18 1830 rob ert shields was born in scotia scotland nd march 16 1831 and died at ake take view tooele thoele on december 6 1915 he ile married maryann jenkins and to this union were born six sons and one daughter his first wife died then he later married his second wife jane to this union w was as born eight daughters john cunningham shields was born jan uary 22 1844 and died december 7 1922 he married jane mickle john ahn who was born february 13 1845 and died april 22 1907 they had six sons and three daughters my father archibald cunning ham shields was born at renfrew shire scotland august 16 1834 he married ellen gillespie who was born at scotland april 30 1840 they had nine sons and eight daughters the mother died september 5 1890 the fath er then married magdalane who was born in mohalia aust na ria april 5 1865 and came to A menca merica march 14 1901 she died in salt lake city november 14 1929 my father archibald cunningham shields fell from a load of wheat and was tailed killed july 13 1904 mr and mrs larry varble and mr and mrs elliot devaux from st louis mo were weekend vis ivors at the home of mr and mrs john tomich |
