Show scout ut news new well here I 1 am back in tooele thoele after a perfectly wonderful vaca tion at camp red cliffe karma aldous carley hamm and I 1 left tooele thoele on the thirty first of june to spend a week at camp how ever due to the shortage of lead ers carley and I 1 were asked by the camp carpp director to stay and assist in the program to stay we were ahr I 1 led is putting it mildly carley was an assistant unit leader and I 1 was assistant to the arts and crafts director of course each leader must have a nickname for camp use so carley ended up being called can dy and I 1 was referred to as sun ny it took us just ages to f n ally awaken to the fact that the campers were calling us when they used these names the program this year was changed a great deal from last years and afforded the campers more opportunity for cook outs over nights etc tooele thoele however was not nearly so well represent ed as it has been in the past I 1 guess the centennial doings were just too attractive to leave the cook outs were really fun and what I 1 heard from the other lead ers tooele thoele s girls were swell little workers chloe ann frailey elma lee kerr lila davis marlene young shirley wardene whitehouse and joann price were a d during u ring the third week while ft roetta ro etta young and janice attended ended the fifth session I 1 think the girls really enjoyed themselves and I 1 know that one of the highlights of the week was the hike to the cliff for which the camp is named eed red cliff is about a mile away from the camp and is reached by a trail which is just difficult enough to make the climb enjoyable the hikers always ap preci ate the rest on top of the cliff where they sing and talk be fore tackling the trail again the view is just beautiful especially when the trek is taken on a moon lit night and I 1 in sure that the memory will always remain with those who made the hike all in all camp affords an op port unity ty to all girl scouts to spend a pleasant and worthwhile week or two cooking out doing arts and crafts etc by the way 1 I imagine that quite a few too ele mothers were very pleased with the articles their daughters made for them while at camp some of the girls made lovely belts and bracelets while others did shell craft on earrings combs barret tes and pins I 1 hope that next summer more girls will take ad vantage of the greatly improved program and attend camp red cliffe for one or more sessions last thursday three of tooele thoele s troops went by bus to saltair where the girls spent a delightful afternoon the troops were under the leadership of mrs wood mrs burger mrs edwards and mrs mantes several of or the girls mo attended also these were mrs frailey mrs shields and mrs cook the bus left tooele thoele about four 0 clock in the afternoon and immediately upon arising at the beach the girls flocked into the water afterwards they all gather ed together and ate their lunches and then off to the concessions the scouts rode everything from the slide in the fun house to the scooters and a few of the more daring one even rode the giant racer A wonderful time was had by the girls and the outing was really a success and unusual as it may seem the only mishaps were a few eyes full of salt wat er ouch well I 1 guess that s about all III the news for this time As a final word I 1 d like to again remind the scouts that the troops belong to the girls themselves and if they dont attend meeting they cant expect much benefit from the scouting program so let lets s get in and attend those meeting and r really eally have a good time doin doing 9 so |
