much stuff there was baggage kids and peo pie all over that bus station the picture proves that about 9 aa a in the buses appeared on the scene the baggage was loaded on and by darn it would take a lathema bician to figure out how all of it and the kids too were put on those buses anyway after quite a struggle everything was in read mess iness and we headed for the es in big cottonwood canyon over in salt lake county somewhere about noon we ar rived riv ed and food im I 1 in simply star ved so naturally the duties of setting up camp were put off un til those gnawing could be filled with food after this the camp was set up in fine order with a special caution that there would be a prize for the cleanest camp you should have seen those kids work those camps really shined the camps were set up in the areas each camp was equipped with a camp stove and a table and you sup plied the rest of the stuff that was needed and that was plenty such as I 1 know one club that consumed hot cakes eakes the other morning after the camp was set up it was time to elect the officers and to get the committee so that the camp could function properly and oh my goodness me my the club members and their leaders jaad d to register so that we who all was there we found some shade under some spruces over to the east of the main part of camp and sat down to get our officer first we had to elect a mayor lets let s see now oh I 1 know lets let s have a boy it was unanimously agreed then and there that jay erickson should be our choice for mayor and so he was duly elected secretary was valene valerie vance and camp scribe was elsie green they tried to elect her mayor but the suggestion was overridden in preference to having a club mem her ber in that important office mr marden broadbent assistant livestock specialist from the ex tension service came soon after we arrived and was there to sup edvise all the activities during the three day stay the committee are as follows PROGRAM interesting I 1 believe I 1 shall go join them and so I 1 went we ve played until suppertime and even then everyone was reluctant to quit somewhere in the last two days he the mayor and secretary got the bright idea that the leaders should put on the program one evening and this was the evening selected or them gosh I 1 wonder what hose those leaders can think of mary told some jokes about van vari aus ous members around the camp mr smith gave a story about how the donkey found his voice louise and genevieve shields with the I 1 aid of their club gave a skit en titled the human ford it was too best part of the even ng ing was as the centennial quiz con by mr broadbent after the manner of take it or leave it he was aided by the following ers and the mayor who posed as contestants mrs A E smith el sie green dons doris patillo mary brande jay erickson don walters genevieve shields deloris lougy gosh that s all of them after the program we went down around the campfire to get warm arm and to have a melon bust then off to bed sleep tight everyone did we sleep tights well most everyone who was there will say yes but there are a few of us who will disagree those who will do the disagreeing were the ones who were sleeping in the open it be gan to sprinkle and so we had to move rapidly over to the shelter thereafter we slept inside just to be on the safe side oh dear that lady will be here at 00 and the clean camp corn com cittee will be around before long well we can t get anything done by sitting around so I 1 guess we had better get to work the camp was scrubbed and shined the food covered dishes too and then off to see the flag raised after that over to the shelter to find a nice convenient table to sit on and lis ten to miss joan frye from the spool cotton company in new a three day outing they return ed home thursday york she gave an interesting ta talk ik on the essentials of good groom ing and arid various finishing touches that we could put on our dresses and then showed us a number of accessories and things which we could mal e we were very pleased to have her come come with me to get the ball and bat and we IV IY get a game go ing so off we went in one dir action for the ball in another for the bat come on anyone who wants to play and the game started there were a few minor spills and it seemed like the per son on f base was continual I 1 getting knocked over because some one was in a hurry to get there there were spills between bases that resulted in someone getting put out but they were ere nothing serious and the game went on someone asked me who won well the last score I 1 remember was 16 to 23 and after that I 1 don dont t think anybody remembered to keep score besides we changed the teams too often while we were playing mrs myrtle D peterson from state col lege and her niece dropped in to pay us a visit and to take a few pictures we had many parents come up to see how their child i ren were getting along and some I 1 of the people who were camped in big cottonwood canyon drop ped into see our programs the last evening we had the rest of the stunts that had been pre pared by the members or the lead ers gosh that amphitheatre was cold but the thoughts of that nice bonfire fixed everything up fine the popcorn waa wa good too ask the seven up club and dale ste vens to imitate paul revere reveres s ride for yo i sometime it will prove very i er esting the hurried us off to bed that evenin so that we could get tip up bright ind early to break up camp before the buses arrived and you know that ram rain was very
