Show American Legion Auxiliary In tAoab 41 Years In November of 1934 a group of World War I wives and mothers applied for a charter for the American Legion Auxiliary.. They received receiv-ed the charter in January, 1935, a living memorial dedicated to the achievement and maintenance of world peace, but not at the price of national honor and respect. The American Legion Auxiliary Auxil-iary would like to honor the ladies who signed both the application and the charter and for the devoted services rendered by the officers and members of the organization during the past 41 years. The members still living in Moab are, Myrle Baldwin, the first president, Lillian Baldwin, Bald-win, Gwyn Meador, Ola Walker, Laura Stocks, Grace Beeson, Ruth Johnson, Anna Borreson, Ida Nichols, Susie Jacques and Esther Somer-ville. Somer-ville. Laura Stocks and Gwyn Meador have remained active members since the club . began. Other original members, now living in Salt Lake are Grace Morse, Ida B. West-wood West-wood and Ida Double. The Auxiliary would also like to honor Mrs. Bertha Elmer Murphy, 101 years old, who is in our local hospital. She was one of the Gold Star mothers who visited the cemetery in France where her son who died in World War I is buried. . |
