Show Not Much Increase In Canyonlands Budget The President's budget for Fiscal Year 1977 that was presented to Congress on January 21 contained increases increas-es for the National Park Service in park operations and a continuation of the land acquisition program under the Land and Water Conservation Fund. According to Pete Pp.rry, Superintendent of the Canyonlands Canyon-lands Complex, the budget does not carry any major requests for the Canyonlands. "There is funding included to cover some small construction jobs, but no major increased funding for the Canyonlands Complex is planned," said Parry. The small projects consist of some large water storage tanks and road resurfacing resur-facing in the Needles area, repair of the road at the Bridges and two new generators gener-ators for Island in the Sky. The total for these projects would be in the neighborhood of $100,000, according to Parry. In recognition of the operational opera-tional needs of the National Park Service, the President allocated an additonal 400 permanent positions effective immediately. |
