Show River Running Permits Woiv Available From B.LPA. Private non-commercial river ri-ver running permits for the coming season are now available avail-able free of charge for portions of Utah rivers managed by the Bureau of Land Management, according to Paul L. Howard, BLM state director for Utah. Permits for private river trips are required by BLM on the Green River through Desolation-Gray Canyon; on the Colorado River through Westwater Canyon and from Rose Ranch to Castle Creek; on the Utah section of the Dolores River, and on the San Juan River from Montezuma Creek to Mexican Hat. Float trip permits- for the various rivers may be obtained from BLM offices as follows: Colorado and Dolores Rivers, from the Grand Resource Area Office, 446 South Main, Moab 84532; Green River from the Price River Resource Area Office, P.O. Drawer AB, Price, 84501; San Juan River, from the San Juan Resource Area Office, Box 1327, Monticello. ' If trips are planned on more than one of those river sections, permits may be arranged through only one of the offices. To protect the resources and ; promote safety, BLM requires river runners to use their own portable toilets (except on canoe and Kayak trips without ', support boats); build fires on a '. fire pan so ashes may be thrown into the river's main 1 current to avoid blackening of ' camping beaches; use biodegradable biode-gradable soaps; carry out all litter and garbage, and comply 1 with Utah state boating laws. Stipulations attached to the permit itemize those and other requirements, the BLM state director explained, and this is why river runners ' should obtain their permits in advance. For Westwatjr canyon, can-yon, advance reservations are required, he added. j On a non-commercial trip, no one may receive a salary, gratuity, or increase his or her net worth, or amortize equip-ment equip-ment costs. Organized private group trips will be considered on a case-by-case basis and must meet the intent of a non-commercial trip, accord-ing accord-ing to Mr. Howard. ( Sizes of river-running . groups will be limited to the , following: Through Desolation and Gray Canyons, 40 people , per trip. Through Westwater Canyon, 25 people per trip. , Dolores River, 25 people per trip. . No limit is imposed for parties on the San Juan River or from Rose Ranch to Castle Creek on the Colorado. When professional guides or outfitters are employed use will be considered as commercial commer-cial and appropriate commercial commer-cial permits will be required.
