This new sport for Grand County High School is building a lot of spectator Interest. Girls JV Basketball Team, Varsity Had Big Week By Penny Martin gchs Journalism Student Grand County High School Girl's Junior Varsity basketball basket-ball team was defeated 14 to 18, on Jan. 26, by the San Juan Broncos, the Devils' second home game. The Red Devils dominated the score board with- the first quarter score being 6 to 4, second quarter 12 to 6, and third quarter 14 to 14. The Broncos took the victory with a four point lead. Judy Martinez of Moab was the high point girl and also made the first basket. The girls Varsity team defeated the Broncos in their game with a score of 36 to 21. The score through the whole game was in Moab's favor'.' Score for the first quarter was 10 to 0, second quarter 20 to 4, and third quarter 28 to 6. The first basket was scored by Carrie Anderson, and the high point girl was Christy Parry. In last week's action the girls defeated the Monticello Buckaroos on January 23, at the Devils' first home game. Junior Vasrsity team defeated the Buckaroos 21 to 13. Lozetta Edwards, making the first basket for the Red Devils, led the score on up to 5 to 5 by the end of the first quarter. In the end of the second quarter the Buckaroos took a 2 point lead, but the score was tied again at il to 11 after the third quarter of play. The Moab Devils quickly broke the tie, defeating the Buckaroos 21 to 13. The high point girls were Barbie Layton and Johnny Clements. The girls Varsity basketball team also took a winning victory over Monticello, Jan. 23. Christy Parry, making the first basket for the Red Devils, helped bring the score up to 6 ' to 0 by the end of the first quarter. The Moab team dominated the score board through the whole game with 1 1 to 6 at the end of the second quarter, and 15 to 8 at the end of the third quarter and earned a victory of 17 to 10. Moab Varsity high point girls were Christy Parry and Susan Tibbetts. |
