Moves ; Virginia Headquarters Chantilly, Va., Continental Telephone Corporation, the nation's third largest independent indepen-dent telephone system, has announced plans to relocate its operating and corporate headquarters head-quarters to Atlanta, Georgia later this year. According to Continental President, J. V. Napier, the move comes as a result of the company's decision to consolidate consoli-date operating and corporate functions at one location. Corporate headquarters currently cur-rently are located in Chantilly, while the company's operating offices are in Bakersfield, California. Napier said that the move, when completed, will result in an Atlanta staff of some 150 employees. He added that Atlanta was selected as the new headquarter's location after a careful review of several potential sires. Continental, listed on both the New York and Pacific Coast Stock Exchanges, has approximately 50,000 stockholders stock-holders and over 37 million shares outstanding. The company com-pany holds assets of more than $2.2 billion and serves more than two million telephones in 41 states, Canada and the Caribbean. Atlanta is currently headquarters head-quarters for the Gulf Division of the Continental System, serving 145,000 telephones in Georgia, Alabama Florida and South Carolina. Continental Telephone Company of the West, a subsidiary of Continental Telephone Tele-phone Corporation operates in Utah and serves more than 17,000 stations in its Delta, Moab, and Tremonton Districts.
