The cake was displayed at the Bicentennial Bake-Off last Saturday. After the bake-off judging, the cake was cut and eaten. Bicentennial Bake-off Huge Success The Bicentennial Bake-Off sponsored by the Moab Utah Stake Relief Society proved to be very successful. Many beautiful and delicious baked items were entered in this contest. A 4 foot by , 7 foot birthday cake for America's 200th birthday was made by the Fourth Ward Relief Society under the direction of Jean Holyoak. It was made in the shape of the United States and depicted the Original 13 Colonies. It was frosted in the patriotic colors with a big blue liberty bell in the center and dates and emblems circling the edges. This cake required 42 cake mixes, 65 lbs. of sugar, 12 hours of constant labor and 13 women to create such a spectacular goodie. Those who made the cake included the Ward's best bakers plus the following who frosted it: Lorie and Orice Irish, Carolyn Randall, Nancy Minor, Norma Looney, Marian Holyoak, Fleda Brakenbury, Pam Walston, Lelanie Irish and Lenore, Beverly, Lorayne and Loryce Tatman. President Cleve A. Raymond Ray-mond and Mayor Bill McDou-gald McDou-gald were the first to sample the cake and then it was served to all who attended the Bicentennial Program where music, dancing, and readings were given as part of the celebration. Bake-off winners were: Lett-ie Lett-ie Leavitt, Grand Prize, for a two-crust pineapple pie; first place, Ro.se Chicon, Mexican bread pudding; second place, Shirley Stewart, carrot cake; and third place, Helen Redd from Paradox, Colorado, for English toffee. Division winners included: Fruit cakes: 1st, Shirley Stewart for carrot cake; 2nd place, Judy Pierce for applesauce apple-sauce cake; 3rd place, Georgia Hamblin for pumpkin cake. Plain cake: 1st, Wilma Stubblefield, applesauce cake; 2nd, Georgia Hamblin, Bicentennial Bicen-tennial cake; 3rd, Carolyn Prisbee, sourkraut cake. Cookies: 1st, Tina Sorenson for Ginger Snaps; 2nd, Vilate Farnsworth, butterscotch cookies; 3rd, VeLoye DeFriez, star spangled delights. Pies: 1st, Lettie Leavitt, two-crust pineapple pie; 2nd, Marjorie Stocks, lemonade pie; 3rd, Norma Blankenagel from La Sal, country cream raisin pie. Bread: 1st, Rowena Palmer, whole wheat bread; 2nd, Anita Raymond, hot rolls; 3rd, Norma Cay, raisin bread. Fancy breads: 1st, Rose Chicon, Mexican bread pud-ding;2nd, pud-ding;2nd, Lula DeLong, raisin bran muffins. Sweet breads: 1st, Hallie Tibbetts, raisin-ring coffee cake; 2nd, Hazel Bates, potato cinnamon rolls; 3rd, Marge Hill, cinnamon rolls. Candy: 1st, Helen Redd of Paradox, English toffee; 2nd, VeLoye DeFriez, million dollar fudge; 3rd, Pattie Copeland, peanut butter fudge. Cake decorating: 1st, Edna Mitchell, La Sal, decorated bird house; 2nd, La Ray Byers, Raggedy Ann doll; 3rd, Wilma Stubblefield, a decorated birth day cake.
