Show Safari Trail . . . Kan e Creek Trail is Only For Short Wheel Bse Rigs Kane Creek Canyon will be have short wheelbase 4-wheel an exciting run for those who drive vehicles. This is the third year for the run to be included in the Safari and it is the third roughest trail offered. Chewey Stewart, a veteran jeepster, will be leading this run that is recommended for only the highly experienced drivers. The run travels the length of the canyon from Hole 'n The Rock to the Colorado River, then up the river to Moab. After leaving U.S. 163 just a few yards from The Hole 'N The Rock turnoff, jeepers enter the upper branch of the Kane Creek Canyon complex. Here begins a twelve-mile route that will take about six hours to cover. A narrow, eroded, bulldozed path is encountered high above the cleft that the canyon stream plunges down. This confines the route between the rock walls of the canyon. It widens momentareily, but is soon forced into the stoney stream bed on the canyon floor by erosion of the soil. The trail is definitely a tough one. Thick tamarisk line the trail from here as it travels along the muddy stream bed and crosses soft sandflats before dipping down into rocky canyon again. Those who follow Chewey on this run during the Safari should be prepared to help make trail repairs due to the uncertain nature of the trail. Shovels, heavy duty jacks and tow cables or chains are a must for jeepers who select this route and line up behind the lead vehicle on the morning of the Safari. |
