Show Camping fees set by Forest Service Fees ranging from $1 to $3 will be charged at 300 campgrounds in the National Forests of the Intermountain Region this year, according to Regional Region-al Forester Vern Hamre. Approximately 327 other campgrounds in the Region can still be used without charge. Fees at some campgrounds camp-grounds in the Region are up $1 from last year. There will be 34 campgrounds camp-grounds with a $3 fee, 19 with a $1 fee, and 247 with a $2 fee. There are also 67 group reservation areas involving both camping and picnicking sites where charges are made for group or organizational use. Reservations for these areas are taken at the District Ranger Headquarters. Head-quarters. No fees are charged for individual family picnic areas, boat ramps, or visitor centers. Fees for extended use of campgrounds will be charged only at sites which offer designated tent or trailer spaces, drinking water, access roads, refuse containers, toilet facilities, campfire facilities, reasonable visitor vis-itor protection, and where uniform fee collection can be assured. Forest users are reminded that 65 per cent of the fees collected are returned to the Forest Service for operation and maintenance of recreation facilities, 25 per cent distributed dis-tributed to counties for public schools and roads, and 10 per cent made available to the Secretary of Agriculture for construction con-struction and maintenance of roads and trails. Persons 62 years or older and those who accompany ac-company them are en- titled to use campground facilities at one-half the regular fee with a Golden Age Passport. This does not apply to group reservation reser-vation areas. Golden Age Passports may be obtained ob-tained free at most Forest Service offices by showing proof of age. Although' most campgrounds camp-grounds are expected to be open by Memorial Day, some will remain closed until a later date. For information about specific areas, especially at high elevations, please contact the local District Ranger or Forest Supervisor Office. Maps of individual National Forests and certain cer-tain special maps cost 50 cents each. Warner and Oowah Lake fees will be $1.00. |
