Show Hiker hurt in fall in Canyonlands A Salt Lake City man, Bob Dowdey, age 30, while hiking in the Monument Monu-ment Basin area of Canyonlands Can-yonlands National Park, slid down a talus slope and fell about 20 feet off an overhanging ledge, injuring his knee. The incident occurred late in the afternoon on Sat., March 18. His hiking companion, com-panion, unable to reach him, lowered him food and a sleeping bag. The next morning, she returned re-turned to their vehicle, drove to the Island in the Sky and notified National Park Service personnel. A National Park Service team, led by Walter Saen-ger, Saen-ger, responded to the request for assistance. The terrain where the accident occurred made the rescue difficult. The victim was transported to the Allen Memorial Hos-pital Hos-pital in Moab. |
