Show Literary Club observes birthay "Happy Birthday!" was the theme Friday, March 17 at 6:30 p.m. as the Women's Literary Club of Moab gathered for a banquet at the Senior Citizen Center. This was an open meeting with husbands and other guests invited. Dues-paying past pres- ; idents of this 80 year old civic and cultural group were- hostesses of this event and it was catered by Miller's Supermarket. Decorations were St. Pat rick's Day in theme and done by Madge Warde. The hall was decorated earlier in the day so that the seniors might enjoy it at their Friday luncheon. Palma Jacobs was chairman of the event and other past presidents are Ha Corbin, Jen Pope, 3 Carol Hines, Pearl Taylor, Madge Warde, Ann Pool, Juanita Mabery, Joan Shermer and Leona Christensen. Chris-tensen. The pledge was made and Esther Balla gave the prayer. Mrs. Jacobs presented the following program after dinner. Cathy Wal-ston, Wal-ston, a senior at G.C.H.S. gave 2 humorous readings called "Neighborhood No Man" and "Vocations". Cathy is an honor student and an artist and plans to attend B.Y.U. to study drama and secretarial work. Member June Latham played 2 piano solos, "Andante Finale" from "Lucia de Lammermoor" by Leschetzky and "Caprice "Cap-rice Viennois" by Fritz . Kreisler. Lester Barwick, accompanied by Adelaide on the autoharp, sang "Look to the Rainbow" from Finian's Rainbow. Mr. Barwick, accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Barwick on piano then led the members and guests in group singing., One birthday birth-day song for the club had words written by Mrs. Barwick to the tune of "Around the World in 80 Days". Other tunes enjoyed en-joyed were "Red, Red Robin," "April Show- ers," "Heart of My Heart," "Val De Ri," "My Wild Irish Rose," "When Irish Eyes" and ' ' Goodnight Sweetheart . ' ' Guests were Mr. Barwick, Bar-wick, Dick Unger, J.B. Latham, Phil and Rhea Gramlich, Wes Oliver, Carrol Meador, Jim Wiseman, Wise-man, Rev. Emil Balla, John Levering, Rae Short, Lloyd Pierson, Bill Hines and Miss Walston. Several members of the club will attend the winter board meeting of the Eastern Eas-tern District, Utah Federation Feder-ation of Women's Clubs to be held in Green River at 10 a.m., March 25, at the Westwinds Cafe. Plans will be made for the upcoming district convention conven-tion to be held in Orange-ville Orange-ville April 22. |
