Moab. As the road drops I into Little Valley over gently rolling hills, it follows the contour of a rock-studded crest across the flats and climbs up a small hill where the abandoned shaft of an old uranium mine is visible. From the mine shaft the trail drops down to the wide-open terrain of Salt Valley from which the massive sandstone fins of Arches National Park's Devil's Garden may be seen. Proceeding on into the Klondike Bluffs basin, the group will stop for lunch amid the desert "playground" of the area. From the lunch stop many trails lead off into the towering pinnacles of the Bluffs, offering the photographer an endless variety of formations to capture on film. After lunch the Klondike Klon-dike Bluffs safari will proceed on the Salt Valley road to within the boundaries boun-daries of Arches National Park. A stop will be made to enjoy the "Eye of the Whale" formation- a huge scenic mass of red sandstone slickrock. From here the famous Balanced Rock is also in view. From Eye of the Whale Matt will lead the group back to Highway 163 on a parallel, but different road. Jeepers venturing on this trail will find the going fairly easy, with some sandy spots on the roads and in the washes to test their 4-wheel drives. Plenty of sweeping views of the scenic red rock country of Southeastern Utah will delight drivers and passengers alike. |
