Show 1 I Arches officially j opens season I Arches National Park interpreta- j tion and fee collection seasons will ! open this month, according to Superintendent Pete Parry. Inter- pretive programs will begin this j week and continue throughout the j summer season. In addition, I special programs have been sched-j sched-j uled to accommodate an anticipated j influx of visitors over the Easter j season. The popular Fiery Furnace Walks will begin Wednesday, March 22. j The ranger-guided nature walks I leave from the Fiery Furnace I Viewpoint at 9 a.m. each morning, j On March 24, 25 and 26, two additional walks are scheduled each day at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Visitors wishing to go on the walks should j meet at the Fiery Furnace parking I lot a few minutes before the scheduled hour. Traditional Campfire Programs will begin on Friday, March 24 at I 7:30 p.m. at the Devils Garden I Campground amphitheater. The programs cover a variety of topics, including geology, history, ecology, plant and wildlife. Program subjects sub-jects will be posted daily at the Visitor Center and the Entrance Station. Program hours will change as the season progresses to coincide coin-cide with longer days. All park visitors are invited. Astronomy programs, which m. m i were successfully introduced last year, wil again be on the interpre- I tation agenda. The first astronomy I program will be the topic of a I campfire talk on March 25. ' Camping fees are being charged as usual at the Devils Garden Campground. As in the past i seasons, camping fee is $3.00. Individual camping sites are I operated on a first come-first serve I basis. Reservations may be made ' for organized group camping. Group camping fees are fifty cents per person, with a $5.00 minimum i Golden Age Passports are available free at the Arches Visitor I Center. U.S. Citizens 62 years of 'I age and over are eligible for the ' passports, which grant them free admission and half-price camping i at all National Park Service areas i and National Park Service operated j campgrounds. I The $10.00 Golden Eagle Pass- I port will be available at the Arches Entrance Station beginning March 22. The daily entrance fee is $1.00 for each vehicle. This passport covers only the regular entrance fees, but does not cover camping I fees. I The Arches Visitor Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. A geologic museum and slide pro- i grams are available, and Ranger assistance is available at the j information desk. I |
