In the first session on February 13, Dr. Wm. Kindree, psychiatrist for FCMHC, lectured to the Volunteers on how to recognize a crisis, how to break a crisis down into its various parts and then work with each part, when to call in other community resources, what authority a volunteer does and does not have. Lynn Lzatt, deputy sheriff sher-iff in Grand County, was a guest speaker at the next meeting on February 27 and talked about the types of crises he handles and what procedures are used in his department. Jim Phillips and Karen Bond spoke at the March 13 meeting on the EMT program and some of the methods they employ in crisis situations. At the next meeting on March 30, Roger Christ-ensen, Christ-ensen, M.S.W., will assist the volunteers in putting together what they have learned from these speakers speak-ers about crisis situations and how to handle them. Since the Volunteer Program at Four Corners Mental Health was rein-stituted rein-stituted last September, the meetings have almost entirely been devoted to training, with 16 volunteers volun-teers receiving over 150 hours of training to date, including learning interviewing inter-viewing skills, techniques like decoding and active listening, information on the use and effects of drugs and alcohol.
