Show SHERIDAN FIELD COAL MINES CLOSE; AGITATORS BLAMED SHERIDAN. Wyo., Nov. 24. Virtually every coal mine in the Sheridan field was shut down todav when the miners failed to report for work. Agitators are blamed for the strike. Major Warren Dean, United States military mili-tary commander in northern Wyoming, who left on a soecial train at noon to address miners' meetings in an endeavor to get the men to return to work, said "uninformed and ill-advised" members of the miners' union were responsible for today's walkout. "It developed today that the miners in northern Wyoming camps were not in favor of the Cheyenne agreement with the operators signed earlier this month, and returned to work with some reluctance. reluc-tance. Under the Cheyenne agreement miners were to receive the same scale agreed upon by operators in the central competitive fields. Major Warren Dean, commandant of the military forces in the Sheridan field, has given warning that unless the men returned to work "he would start tomorrow tomor-row arresting union leaders for violation of the injunction issued by Federal Judge A. B. Anderson at Indianapolis. Major Dean made a tour of the district today, calling on all officers of locals and informing them that the strike order was in direct violation of the court's order and that the military forces, which have been in the field since the beginning of the strike, have full power to detain those responsible for the second walkout. |
