Show ASSESSING OF CANNED GOODS BEFORE BOARD 18 Per Cent of Products Are Requisitioned Requisi-tioned by Government; Question Will Be Solved. Question of assessniont of Oods held in canneries has come before the state board of equalization from Davis county. Assessor John H. Blood askin? if he should assess canned stuff held at the order of the United Stales government. The question Is asked because IS per cent of the output of ennneries is requisitioned requi-sitioned by the government. The government gov-ernment has not yet paid for the stuff 3nd will not allow the canneries to sell it to other would-be purchasers. The government will, however, pay for the canned stock held as suon as it is shipped at its order. In reply to the query. Secretary Bailey has written to Assessor John IT. Blood at Karmington that, "if the goods belong to the government and the canning companies com-panies have no jurisdiction over them other than to store tbem and ship them upon notice, there isn't any question but that the goods would be exempt from taxation tax-ation as government. property. However, How-ever, t here is a q uestion in connection with it as .to the solvent credit, involved in-volved in these goods which might be assessable. However, if perchance later on the government should release these goods, they should be placed on the rolls -as an additional assessment. " |
