Show MORE COAL II UTAH Til M BE USED Full Time Operation of the Mines Given as Reason for Surplus. There is no coal shortage in Utah now, according to railrqad and coal company officials. In fact, there is more coal on hand than can be disposed of, they say. Dealers Deal-ers are out soliciting orders now, where only a short time ago they were , turning turn-ing down urgent orders for deliveries. AVeather conditions which permitted of full-time operation of the mines is given as the principal reason for the present surplusage of coal supply here. Transportation facilities have also been greatly improved under government control of the railroads, it is said, with the result that the mines have been able to get out and ship their product to the various ceuters of the state more rapidly and in more oontinuous manner. man-ner. Practically all of the dealers in Salt Lake, it is reported', have coal on storage stor-age to the capacity of their storage bins, and unless there should be a continuous con-tinuous stretch of weather that would interfere with mine operations and j trausportation there is no danger of any further fuel shortage here this winter, win-ter, it is declared. Coal in large quantities is moving eastward from the western coal districts, dis-tricts, to meet the shortage situation in eastern centers, and it was reported yesterday by one railroad official that not Jess than 1000 cars of coal are now at Missouri river -points awaiting orders or-ders to be moved forward as soon as the congested freight conditions on the eastern lines is cleared sufficiently for the coal to be rushed through to the points where it is needed. So-called "heatless" nights, which have been in vogue in this city under the orders of the state fuel administrator adminis-trator since January 15, are a thing of hte past. The order issued by the fuel administrator on January 5 was, rescinded re-scinded yesterday and owners of apartment apart-ment houses, business blocks and other buildings where steam heat is used can give their tenants all the heat desired, de-sired, without fear of consequences. The order rescinding the original order or-der sets out that there is a surplus of steam coal in the district and that there is no necessity for the enforcement enforce-ment of the order referred to. The fuel administrator takes advantage of the occasion to thank the people for their co-operation, and adds that he feels sure that no undue advantage will be taken of the suspension of the order, or-der, to the detriment of the general public in the matter of conserving coal. |
