The trans-. trans-. fer is what is known as a paper transfer, and the men, while they are now a part of the j)0 st quartermaster corps, are in effect a post quartermaster detachment assigned to engineer supply duty. This change In the personnel of the dfpot organization is in line with a previously pre-viously announced policy of reorganization reorganiza-tion of the quartermaster department of the army, orrafher disorganization of this department and the formation of a new department of purchase, storn ge and traffic, under the supervision and direction of the purchase, storage and . traffic section of the general staff. Under the new organization plan the quartermaster corps as it has existed practically goes out of existence and the handling of all purchases, suppl ies and transportation matters for the entire army is vested in the new burea u or organization directly under the general staff and curiam officers detailed to duiy to look after the' various branches of the work. The change will mean that there will i he no more postquartermasters such as ! , there have been in the past, but their places will be taken hy post subsistence quartermast er.s. What is left of the old quartermaster depart men t will ha ve charge only of bakeries, cemeteries, la-, bor and remount depots. Purchases ni materials and supplies will be centralized in one head, to be known as the department de-partment of purchase. j |
