Show 'vive l'amerique, vive whitlock; belgians exclaim BRUSSELS, Sunday, Nov. 21. (By the Assoelo ted Press. ) The love which Bel-glum Bel-glum bears toward America and the deep regard in which the United States minister, min-ister, Brand Whitlock, is held were even increased in an unprecedented way yesterday yester-day at the famous church of Sainte Gu-du!c Gu-du!c during a service of thanksgiving for Belgium's newly found freedom. The old church was crowded and the royal family, members of the cabinet and the diplomatic corps were present. The service was the most impressive and beautiful ever seen in Brussels, most of the great congregation being moved to tears. At the conclusion of t he Te Deum. a band which had been specia ily provided started to play the Belgian national anthem. an-them. But their overwrought emotions quickly curried them into cheers, which was probably the first time in history such a thing occurred 'here. The king and queen and Cardinal Mer-oier Mer-oier were all acclaimed in mighty vol-lyiie. vol-lyiie. Then came the ringing cry. "Vive I'Amerique!" and a moment later, as Minister 'Whitlock passed down the aisle, the audience broke out with an impassioned impas-sioned "Vive Whitlock:'" |
