Show MAY BE MUSTERED OUT OF SERVICE IN UTAH CAPITAL Whether the 115th fifth artillery (First Utah) will be mustered out of the federal srrvice in Salt Lake or at some other place is a matter that has not yet been decided, according to information received by The Tribune from Washington, D. C. If the war department decides to muster mus-ter out the organization here, where it was mustered in, the regiment will likely I come direct from the port of debarkation when it lands at New York. But, If It is 1 found necessary to send it elsewhere to be mustered out. then the regiment will 1 have to go first to that place and return home after it in formally mustered out of j the federal service. j A dispatch from Washington says: "Tho ' war department has not yet begun to make arrangements for mustering out of the service fighting units of the American army, other than men now at the various training camps in this country. No plans whatever have been made for the muster out- of the Utah artillery." The Utah organization was mustered into the service at Fort Douglas, but tiiat was in the summer time when it was possible for the regiment to go into tent camp on the field southwest of the main post. It is pointed out that it would be impracticable to put the regiment under un-der tent at the post during the winter and there are no permanent housing accommodations ac-commodations which could be used for this purpose. In view of this there is considerable con-siderable doubt as to whether the regiment regi-ment will be sent here to be mustered j out. However, this 1b a matter that must be decided by the war department aJone. ! Tt is further pointed out that the ar- j tillery brigade under command of Briga- dier-General R. VV. Young, includes a Cali- fornla regiment of artillery and that if the entire brigade is returned as a unit 1 it Is not improbable that it might be held at some eastern camp until they could be mustered out and sent home from that place. The people of Utah are anxiously awaiting some announcement from the war department as to where and when i the mustering out will take place. j |
