Show BARS ORDERED CLOSED DURING REGISTRATION Police Chief Notifies Sa-loonists Sa-loonists That Liquors Must Not Be Sold. Acting on orders issued by Chief of Police White following a conference with Mayor Ferry, plain-clothes men last night visited the downtown saloons and ordered that the bars be closod between be-tween the hours of 7 and 9 o'clock next Tuesday, while the selective draft registration reg-istration is taking place. Xo orders to this effect have come from Washington and Governor Bamberger Bam-berger several davs ago said that the matter of compelling the bars to close on registration day was one for the civil authorities to deal with. The police last night said that the order would be rigidly enforced. The mayor and police chief said it was their desire to have nothing to provoke pro-voke possible disorders on registration day, and that the bars would De closed as a precautionary measure. Chief White said that he looked for no untoward demonstrations on the part of "conscientious objectors'1 or radical pacifists, but that his department was prepared to effectually deal with any disorders. The police order closing the saloons follows: Under the federal law setting aside Tuesday, June 5, as registra-tion registra-tion day, and also under the proclamation procla-mation of the governor of Utah, all ftersons and places folding liquor icenses will be prohibited from selling sell-ing liquor on that day between the hours of 7 a. m. and 9 p. m. |
