Show TURKISH FANATICISM. The Jewish residents of Jerusalem have twice been ordered to leave the ancient eity by the ;Ttirks, but each time the order has been held up by the influence in-fluence of the Germans, who fear the effect upon the people of the Christian nations. The latest order, however, is still hanging over the heads of the unfortunate un-fortunate Jews and may be put into effect at any time. Tt is easy to tell what miht happen to these people if the centr.il powers should win the war, for the Turks would have full sway in that part of Asia unless the kaiser played them false, which he would do in order to further his own ends. So perhaps the greatest dauber will come while tne ! war is going on. If the Jews and the Europeans are compelled to evacuate .Jerui-ak-iii, it is certain that the shrines and holy places drar'to the hearts of Christians everywhere will be destroyed de-stroyed by the 1'anatiral Moslems, and that norhin will remain to mark these hallowed spots. Un fortunately such sacrilege cannot be prevented, and although al-though vengeance may be taken, these monuments cannot be restored. As Germany Ger-many is no longer a Christian nation sentiment will not appeal to her rulers. They may save .Jerusalem as a matter of policy, but they have no heartfelt interest in the matter one way or the other, their sole purpose and intent be-in be-in to dominate the world. It is a sad commentary upon t went ieth t-cntur civilization, at least so far as the central cen-tral powers are concerned. |
