Show BRITISH STEAMSHIP COMPANIES MERGE Lord Inchcape to . Head Combine; Property Worth $2,000,000,000 Involved. SAX FRANCISCO, June 2. A merger of a store of British steamship companies, including the Cunard line, Peninsular aud Oriental, Comnionwealth-Dominiou Comnionwealth-Dominiou line, Allan line, Union Steamship Steam-ship company of New Zealand, the New-Zealand New-Zealand Shipping company, the British India company, and several smaller concerns, con-cerns, has been completed, according to a cablegram received today by Reginald Beck of the Hind-Rolph company, agent of the Union Steamship company. Lord Inchcape, head of the Peninsular and Oriental company, will be the directing di-recting head of the company, it is said, and will direct fleets aggregating more than 400 vessels with a total valuation for the shipping and other properties of about $2,000,000,000. The operating companies expect to be able to affect a mere economic administration adminis-tration of their vessels by the merger, as, it is said, it will facilitate better routing, make easier necessary transfers of officers and erews the best operating efficiency, eliminate duplicate routings and consolidate the numerous agencies. |
