Show Mil DENIES IE CRITICISED TENER League Board of Directors Accepts Statement and Incident Is Closed. NEW YORK, June 19. John J. Mc-Graw's Mc-Graw's denial that he had made a vitriolic vitriol-ic verbal attack upon President John K. Tener of the National league brought peace in the councils of the organization this afternoon. The scrappy Giant manager submitted a formal statement to the league directors, direc-tors, repudiating newspaper interviews in which lie was quoted as roasting Terjer. He declared he had read these articles only today, though they were printed five days ago. The league directors accepted Mc-Graw's Mc-Graw's denial promptly and voted the row a closed incident. The fine of $500 and sixteen days' suspension levied by President Presi-dent Tener because MoGraw struck Umpire Um-pire Byron will stand. But McGraw will not be banished for the remainder of the season, as was threatened. President Tener refused to comment on the action of the directors after the meeting meet-ing adjourned. It was reported before the directors met that Tener would not stand for re-election unless the league sat heavily on McGraw. Tener told (.questioners (.ques-tioners after the meeting that he would not be a candidate for re-election. He maintained a discreet silence, however, when asked If he would accept another term if the job was handed to him. . |
