Show SCHOOL BOARD MEETS AND THEN ADJOURNS Discusses Principalship, but Befrains From Taking Definite Action. The city board of education discussed the appointment of a principal for the West High school for three hours last night, interspersing sporadic remarks on the effect of the workmen's compensation law on school matters, then adjourned to tomorrow night without taking definite action. While the meeting was behind closed doors and no generous report of the discussion dis-cussion was forthcoming from any of the participants, yet it was admitted that the question that occupied the attention of the board was that of possible retention reten-tion of L. M. Gilillan in the principalship. Mr. Gillllnn was at the board rooms, but was not present during the deliberations of the board, which 'were in the seclusion of the superintendent's office. Several members of the board said after adjournment thai no recommendation as to appointment of a principal had been made by the committee. Interrogated as to whether Superintendent Ernest A. Smith hod made any recommendation, they said that he had asked for more time to dn so. with the result that the adjournment was taken. A committee was appointed lo investigate investi-gate the questions of the bearing of the workmen's compensation law on the i schools and to report back to the board. |
