Show Patrolmen Lurk in Deep Shadow of Freight Sheds Wait Hopefully for Prey That Never Comes, Guarding1 Guard-ing1 Precious Warrants. WHILE the alleged culprits were baskincr in the sunshine of Los AngeJes. admiring the magnificent magnifi-cent beauty of the Grand canyon can-yon of the Colorado or yawning over the monotony of the Nevaxla sagebrush sage-brush deserts, policemen armed with a stack of "John Doe" warrants, sworn to by Chief of Police J. Parley White yes-I yes-I terday afternoon, were lurking in the i shadows of local railroad freight depots, vainly watching for the prey that never I came. Altogether Chief White swore to 'twelve warrants, charging as many engineers engi-neers and conductors with carelessly planting their trains across grade crossings, cross-ings, thereby obstructing the passage of street cars, automobiles, hay racks and humble pedestrians, but all the trainmen involved were out of town when the officers offi-cers set out to arrest them. Failing in their first efforts, the policemen po-licemen resorted to a watchful waiting policy. Equipped with the caboose numbers num-bers of the guilty trains, but not the names of their pollts, the officers called on the alleged offenders' superiors, anJ by consulting the schedules gradually learned when the respective cabooses and their crews are slated to return. The men ; will be taken into custody as fast as they arrive and arraigned in the police court.
