In the seventh things looked very auspicious for the Seals, but a sure shot by Qulnlan to third slaugh- : tered J-tiff Schalter and minimized their chances to a fatal degree. Hits Are Even. Lefty Leverenz and Lefty Oldham Imoked up in a battle which was even so far as hits went. Uach club got ten. If the errors had been even, too, the score would have been tied and we might still be playing ball. Neither pitcher struck his gait until the bases were well inhabited, and then they both got bo good that the number of marooned runners was large enough to make up two or three games. Almost . every inning wound up with one or more ball players hovering In the offing, begging, beg-ging, for encouragement, but the encouragement encour-agement did not materialize. There was enough hitting on both sides to keep the fans in a state of uncertainty un-certainty from start to finish. Three or four beaten-out bunts added to the interest, in-terest, since it is always a nifty play when a batter beats out a buntlet. Saints Score First. Rait Lake scored one in the first inning. in-ning. Tobtn doubled over Malsel's head and scored when Hannah hit safely and Corhan made a wild throw to first. The Seals tied it in the second. With t one out' Maisel doubled and counted on Corhan's single. Following Corhan's hit a muffed fly ball put MrKee on, and after Oldham popped out to Rath, Calvo walked, filling the bases. Pick forced Calvo and the fans- hove a long, loud sigh. In Salt Lake's Becond Dubuc doubled and went to third when the throw-in was foozled, but he died there. Gislason fanning. Rath popping to Koerner and ' Leverenz striking out. In the third Downs walked and went to third on Koerner's hit. Maisel hit a screecher to Orr, who, valuing his life at nothing, nailed It and heaved the ball to Hannah, ending In Jerry's undoing. A double play helped the Seals In 1 he local half of the third. The fourth was barren on both sides. In the fifth the- Seals took a one-rnn lead. Pick singled. The Salt Lakers were looking for a bunt from Schaller, but Piff fooled 'em by slapping one over the inner ring that went for two bases, Pick scoring. Salt Lake Wins. The game was decided in the last half of the fifth when Salt Lake made two tallies. Rath walked and Leverenz sacrificed. sacri-ficed. Orr singled, scoring Rath. Town's To-wn's single stmt Orr to third. Sheely walked and then Hannah won the game with a single to left, which scored Orr. The Peals got two hits and a stolen base in the seventh and in the local half two bits and a walk filled the bases, but the Saints failed to score. The eighth was a blank all around. Tn the ninth Downs sent Del Baker in to bit for Oldham. Del was called out on strikes, but be made life quite interesting interest-ing for Umpire Heid for a lew minutes when Red called the last strike on him. Calvo also fanned and Pick skied to To-bin To-bin for the third out. The clubs will play again this afternoon after-noon at 3 o'clock. STANDING OF THE CLUBS.
